Animal Experience Days

Give them the chance to fall in love with something furry, slithery or feathered
(...who they won't bring home)

Experience days make great days out gifts for animal lovers.  Meerkat encounters, wildlife photography experience days, horse riding, walking with a llama, camel trekking, tackling your phobia, keeper for the day, big cat encounters - the list is ever expanding. These experience days give your loved one the chance to go behind the scenes and get close up and personal with their favourite animal, be it the red panda, penguins, owls, or anything else.  They usually offer the chance to find out more about conservation, too, giving the participant the opportunity to talk to the animals' keepers.

There are a couple of ways to buy animal experience days - one is by purchasing them from gift experience companies such as Activity Superstore, Buy-a-Gift, Red Letter Days, Virgin Experience Days & Into the Blue.  The advantage of buying from these is that most of them will give you the chance to exchange the gift for another experience, should they need or want to.  When we gave my father a Meerkat Encounter for his 80th birthday, we chose to go through Buy a Gift, rather than direct from Paradise Wildlife Park, so that if necessary, we could swap the meerkat experience in Hertfordshire to something closer to home (Southampton, at the time). Key to buying any experience is to book early so as not to fall foul of the expiry date - these usually cannot be extended - to check locations and all the notes the providers give you before buying.
Before you buy an experience, please ensure that you read the small print, terms & conditions.  Some activities will permit children to take part, others won't. Some activities may not be good for peeople with certain sorts of injuries or medical conditions and some may only take place in certain locations. Just check to be sure  before you buy. Prices were correct at the time of publication on the web; if any appear to be wrong or out of date, please let us know. And PLEASE check the length of the vouchers & let the recipient know that there is an expiry date - these vary from experience to experience. Thank you.

  • WASH YOUR HANDS after touching animals BEFORE eating or snacking. (It could be a good idea to take some antiseptic wipes or handwash with you, just in case loo facilities don't provide soap.) Do not let children put their fingers into their mouths or suck thumbs after touching animals - it's common sense!
  • The amount of contact you can have with animals varies from one place to another & one animal to another. Common sense must prevail.
