Good Life Land Management Masterclass at Jimmy's Farm, Suffolk
Find out how to manage the land you have and pick up the tricks of the trade when deciding what to do with it. This full one day course will teach you the basic rules of land management, whether you want to grow vegetables or plants or keep livestock. A light lunch and refreshments are also included. Consideration will be given to location, climate, topography, soil types and the four seasons to help you take the plunge. Spend a day or half a day on this 60 hectare modern dairy farm in Northwich, Cheshire (about an hour from Manchester & Liverpool). Breakfast at the farmhouse & lunch at the local pub will keep you going, and you'll head for home with some local produce. There's a herd of 100 milking cows & calves, and they all need lots of loving tender care, so milking & feeding will be very much part of the day. This is a wonderful gift for anyone who'd welcome an insight into the farming industry and who'd love the chance to talk to Farmer Charles about his herd & what it's like to be a farmer. Held in West Yorkshire, upon your arrival, you'll work under the guidance of Barbara Sykes, a shepherdess farmer and dog trainer. She has represented her country at International Sheep Dog Trials. You'll work with the dogs for a couple of hours, both before and after lunch, and probably in a small group. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the bond between people and dogs, and how we communicate with them - and also to be in stunning surroundings and enjoy the wonders of nature. Meals aren't included, but there's a pub nearby.
