Keep other cats out of your home - Get Active Shopping

Who else has come home from a day’s work or a night out to find that a neighbour's cat has been intruding in their home?

The visiting cat has eaten your pet’s food, sprayed around the kitchen, gone into the living room and sprayed all over your computer and left your puss feeling as though he can never feel safe in his home again.   You’re then left with a cat to console, plus possibly a big cleaning effort and the need to go and buy yet more cat food.

Developed in conjunction with vets, PetPorte gives your cat the freedom to go out and come home - but it also prevents other cats from coming in.

A big plus is that you can have some say in your cat’s comings and goings, because you’re in charge of programming the flap.
You programme the flap to respond to your cat’s microchip and number.  (You can programme up to 12 numbers, so if you have more than one cat and less than 12, you’re fine.)

The cat flap senses the chip as your cat approaches and it unlocks at once.   Since every microchip is unique, even if your neighbour’s cats are chipped, they won’t be able to get inside, because you won’t have programmed the cat flap to open up for their microchip number.  This means that cats such as aggressive territorial toms are firmly put in their place – outside your home.

PetPorte reads 15-digit microchips and your cat will need to be micro-chipped in order to use the product.  Veterinary surgeries can easily arrange for this to be done.

Key features of the PetPorte cat flap include:
  • When your cat comes in through the cat flap, it beeps so you can rest easy in bed, knowing that your puss is safely in for the night.  And yes, you can turn the beep off, if you wish.

  • Our cat, Trouble, worked out pretty quickly how to open his cat flap (which was not a PetPorte) – he could also just force his way through it. Cats don’t do programming, and since the flap responds to a microchip, they can’t change the system.

  • It means your cat doesn’t need to wear a collar, so there’s no danger of him or her getting caught up by one.  This means you won’t have to spend money replacing all those your cat has lost.  Nor will puss get his paws or tail trapped in the cat flap – you can programme PetPorte so that the door will stay open longer to give your cat time to get inside.  If he’s being chased, however, the flap will shut very smartly behind him, locking that aggressive potential intruder out

  • There’s an optional automatic twilight lock-down which stops your cat going out once it starts to become dark.  This means that during the winter months, you can ensure your cat is in as darkness falls; in the summer, he can have far longer outside.  He’ll be off the roads during the dark hours.   You can also stop him going out at times when there’s greater risk – such as during fireworks night.

  • If your cat is heading to the vet and has to stay in the night before, you can change the setting on the cat flap to “vet mode.”

This product could potentially save cat owners money on cat collars, cat food (do you know how many cats you really are feeding in the neighbourhood?!), cleaning materials and even vets’ bills, if intruders fall into fights with your cat or your cat is injured when out at night by cars or gets into fights with the local wildlife.   But surely the best benefit has to be greater peace of mind for you and your cat.
