What do you get the animal & nature lover who has everything? (March 26, 2009)

What do you get animal-lovers or the person who's got everything?  Get them an experience or day out doing activities with animals!

There's lots of days  & experiences out to choose from

Some charities are now doing their own thing. The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, Devon has a number of Donkey Care Days during 2009 - these were so popular last year that they have put on more this year.  You can groom, feed and exericse the donkeys, plus have fun making name collars and mucking out.  You'll get a framed photo of yourself with the donkeys, of course, plus various refreshments throughout the day.  Perfect for the donkey lover in your life!

A number of wolf walks are a possibility, too. such as are organised by the Anglian Wolf Trust or the UK Wolf Conservation Trust (you need to be a member of this to go on one of their walks). The Working Horse Trust (keep scrolling down the page on that link) also run days out to give those who have an interest in working horses an introduction to the breeds, basic care, essential working commands and hands on.

There are also of course the days out organised by various llama farms around the UK.  Take a walk with a llama - and feel karma!  Very different to just heading out for a walk, and great fun for everyone.
Cat lovers may welcome the chance to feed big cats by hand (yes, there is an enclosure separating them and the lion), or enjoy a raceday (or evening) package for two.  Your loved one may prefer to be out on the water and be a dolphin fan, in which case Dolphin and Whale Watching for Two may be just the thing.  Plus there's the opportunity for friends & relatives to meet meerkats, try their hand at guiding sheep into a pen (with a sheepdog to assist, naturally), or feed the lemurs by hand (and bear in mind that they are not toilet trained).

Now do you know anyone who would jump at the chance to shadow a zoo keeper for a day or spend the day with a country vet (and they can't guarantee what you'll see or do on this one for obvious reasons...)?  Anyone over the age of 10 who's a reptile fan may love getting up close wtih reptiles and creepy crawlies.

Horse lovers will find plenty on offer, too with racing packages, cowboy riding breaks, carriage driving, or a western adventure day - or a wonderful ride in the New Forest. And kids can have a real cowboy adventure.

For the bird lovers, there's the opportunity handle owls, discover more about falconry, and help with parrots at a parrot sanctuary, plus plenty of birds of prey experience days throughout the UK.

And finally, for all pet owners, what about having their pet's pic taken in a photoshoot?
