Donkey Carer Experience & Volunteers (September 06, 2008)
If you're looking for a present with a bit of a difference for someone who's a donkey fan, then look no further - we've got the perfect present for them!

The Donkey Sanctuary has a Donkey Carer Experience Day, which will give you the chance to work at the Sanctuary. There you can make friends with over 400 rescued and unwanted donkeys.

The Experience lasts for a day, and gives the Donkey Carer the chance to really get stuck in and get hands-on experience. You'll be grooming, feeding and exercising the donkeys, mucking out and enjoying a tour of the farm.

Those taking part will receive a certificate, a framed photo of them with the donkeys, a t-shirt, lunch and refreshments (now these include a Devon Cream Tea and I can highly recommend that) plus a personalised donkey collar.

The Day costs £150.00.

All funds raised from the daty will go towards the Sanctuary, which has 10 farms in the UK and Ireland, and also is involved with projects in Europe, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Kenya and Mexico.

For more details visit the Donkey Sanctuary's web site or call 01395 578 222. Next time you are in Devon, do stop in and visit - it makes a great day out.

PLUS:  the Donkey Sanctuary is looking for volunteers who can help with their resident donkeys in Devon, Dorset and Derbyshire.  Could you lend a hoof?  Find out more...

  • WASH YOUR HANDS after touching animals BEFORE eating or snacking.  (It could be a good idea to take some antiseptic wipes or handwash with you, just in case loo facilities don't provide soap.)  Do not let children put their fingers into their mouths or suck thumbs after touching animals - it's common sense!
  • The amount of contact you can have with animals varies from one place to another & one animal to another.  Common sense must prevail.
