Learn from Animals

Take a few lessons from our friends in the animal kingdom about wellbeing.

If you've eaten tons of stuff you shouldn't one day, feeling bad about that isn't going to change the fact that you ate more than you know you should. We all have a blow out from time to time.

Start every day from anew, just as animals do.  It's a new day, another dawn, and another chance to start afresh.

Learn from yesterday, or the last hour in your life, and move on.

Use all your senses to live.  The senses of smell, taste, touch, hearing and sight were given to us for a reason.  Animals make good use of their senses.  People tend to fall out of the habit!

Drink water - take a bottle with you everywhere you go and re-fill it from the tap. Replace the bottle regularly.

Watch the alcohol you drink. A clearer head gives us clarity of thought. (Animals don't drink alcohol, but they still have lots of fun.)

Enjoy a good social life.  Many animals are herd in nature and a number - such as donkeys - like to be in pairs.

Dogs are sociable creatures and for this reason, many suffer from stress if left at home all day alone.

Build up a good support network - a cat always has two sources of food supplies, for isntance, in case one grinds to a halt.  Cats are wise creatures.

Enjoy good quality sleep.  Take cat naps at weekends.  Have quiet unwinding time before you get into bed at night.

Be curious Trouble
Never lose your sense of curiosity.  As children, one of the most frequent words we use is Why.  Why do, why this, why that?

When was the last time you asked someone "Why?"

Get more fresh air.  Go and jump in muddy puddles, walk through the woods kicking leaves in autumn, help your local conservation society or wildlife trust.

Use all your senses, not just your ears and eyes.  Touch things you see and smell them.

Pay attention to your grooming.   Your pet will love a brush from you, if you do it nicely. It will enhance the bond between you, boost your pet's self-esteem and lower your blood pressure and stress levels.  Spend fifteen minutes grooming your pet when you get in from work at night.

Have quiet time to sit and think and rest.  Go and sit in a field for an afternoon - check to see there are no bulls in it first - or on a hilltop.

Spend some time every week simply watching the world unfold before you. Rest your mind from all that thinking, planning, stressing and whatever else it does during the week.

Focus on putting some real fun and adventure into your life.  When was the last time you did something new and different?

Share special moments with a friend.  If you're a pet owner, cherish your loved animal friends while you can.
Love knows not its own depth
Until the hour of separation.

Please...
  • Always consult with your GP before starting any new form of exercise
  • Note that animals are unpredictable - and they may not always want to be seen or found.  We cannot guarantee how close you may or may not get to animals in specific programmes - common sense must prevail.
  • WASH YOUR HANDS after touching animals BEFORE eating or snacking.  (It could be a good idea to take some antiseptic wipes or handwash with you, just in case loo facilities don't provide soap.)  Do not let children put their fingers into their mouths or suck thumbs after touching animals - it's common sense!
  • The amount of contact you can have with animals varies from one place to another & one animal to another.  Common sense must prevail.
  • Before you visit places, check that there are no current regulations/conditions which could mean that they are closed. Also check for opening hours.
  • Take your rubbish home with you, at animals' requests
