Hertfordshire (a mile from a nature reserve, as well, 8 miles from Hay-on Wye, a comfy home from home with flair in two self-catering cottages.  Children love the garden - a haven of wildlife.

In the Forest of Dean, horses, dogs & children are very welcome to come with you. A 17th century farmhouse, hearty breakfasts, a big fire to read the papers by if ithe weather turns on you - what more can you ask for?

A working family farm with sheep and horses on the Kent Downs in an area of outstanding beauty - plenty for you to see and do - or maybe you just want to chill out and laze about enjoying the view and the specially created wild flower meadow?

This Northumberland farm has a small flock of coloured Ryeland sheep.  It's an ideal distance from Hadrian's Wall for exploring, and they support the local conservation project, Save the Squirrel. They have some red squirrels in their woods - you may see them

An organic farm in Somerset offers the chance to go Wwoofing (that's Willing Workers on Organic Farms), plus they run courses on breadmaking, falconry, organic farming & art weekends. You'll find pet chickens, cats & dogs, ducks and geese - and if you want to take your own pet, please contact them.

B & B in Devon on an organic farm,
3 miles from
Hatherleigh, with the Tarka Trail running through it.  You'll find hens, organic sheep, two working collies & four friendly cats ready to welcome you, plus miniature ponies. 

This self-catering cottage on a 20 acre estate in East Sussex is also home to
the Black Wensleydale rare breed sheep, with their very special fleece. Dogs may be accepted,  with prior arrangement with the owners, so you need to contact them.

  • WASH YOUR HANDS after touching animals BEFORE eating or snacking.  (It could be a good idea to take some antiseptic wipes or handwash with you, just in case loo facilities don't provide soap.)  Do not let children put their fingers into their mouths or suck thumbs after touching animals - it's common sense!

  • Before you visit places, check that there are no current regulations/conditions which could mean that they are closed. Also check for opening hours.
