Cats

Trouble
The Cat family extends to all cats great and small, from lions and leopards to the domestic puss.  Here's our little domestic puss, Trouble, pictured right.

There are opportunities to get involved and help out with all sorts of cats. We spent a morning lending a paw at
PAD (Malaga, Spain) You can find out more here.

If you would like to volunteer for cats, there will be lots of opportunities to lend a paw wherever you are.   For the big cats, head over to Take Action to Help Animals

Cats Protection (UK)
This charity has charity shops, adoption centres and branches, all of whom need volunteers. In fact around 90% of this charity is run by volunteers, so it's a great way to make new friends, both cats & people.  I spent several years helping out an adoption centre, mucking out, grooming, cuddling, talking...worth every moment.  The cats really appreciated it, and so did the staff at the centre.   Every paw counts. One lady used to come and sit with her knitting and Radio 4 at one end of the pen and one of the more nervous cats at the other end.  It gave puss a chance to get used to kind people again in his own time.

There are hundreds of cat charities worldwide, all needing help for their cats, big and small.

Less of a hands-on approach
You don't need to actually even see a cat to help out.  You can do a sponsored event e.g. a sponsored (sensible) slim, a sponsored walk, organise a coffee morning, do a boot sale and give the proceeds to your local charity - the choices are endless.  Offer to help an an event

Helping cat owners
You could offer to take a cat for someone who can't get about so easily - such as the elderly - to the vet for his annual checkup.  Such an offer could mean the difference between that person being able to keep her cat or not. One option in the UK could be to help the Cinnamon Trust, who help with pet care for elderly people and those who are terminally ill.

Did you know...

that in Japan, stressed out office workers in Tokyo can pay around £5 and enjoy a cuddle with a cat in their lunch hour to de-stress?  Cats Livin' is giving cat lovers who can't own a cat the chance to get some cuddles in.

Cats can be terrific de-stressers and they can also be very funny in the things they do and the situations they get themselves in, as any cat owner knows.
